The Final Word on Reservation

So, this is it ! If you know what I mean, I am talking about today's headlines in TOI. PM supports quota in Private Sector. This can be called the proverbial nail in the coffin of India's intelligensia. Ya! ya! I am aware of the negative connotation of that. But that is how the so called thinkers and statesmen of the country are considering us. I fortunately (or unfortunately!) fall in that category of men and women and all others concerned who have slogged it out at one of the hallowed institutions of this country "The IITs" and am on the way to another "The IIMs".
Now you can consider that I am guy with an inflated ego who is blowing his own horn. But without any sense of immodesty I can confidently say that I am. Nobody can take away from me and many other more wualified people than me, the satisfaction of making it on my own.
Only yesterday I met a guy at my house. Our conversation went something like this:
me : Hey! so you are from IITD.
he: (looking askance) yeh!
me: so u a WL at IIMB?
he: yeh! (same derogatory look)WL 3 in SC.
me: so any other calls ?
he: nitie... not joining .. when i can get the best why not ??
me: (ya! why not) but nitie is a good college too... the last date for booking the seats is over right !!
he: yah! who cares!! me going to IIMB only.
me: yah i guess!!

For your information this guy had a percentile of 81 in the CAT. I do not blame his attitude, for whatever it is worth. This sense of right over the seats which would not have been his if they had gone by merit is only because of the grace of govt. And please bear in mind the guy I am talking about had 2 feet, 2 hands, 2 eyes, a nose, 2 ears , and whatever else faculties a able male person has to survive in this world. He could be called the creme de la creme of our society.

I donot want to be a complaining child here, whining over a lost sweet meat. But yes I am worried. About the state of affairs we have come to. Instead of taking affirmative actions the govternment is doing things which can only be called politically expeditious. They have brought us to a state where we can go this way or that and I mean the good and the ugly. Any more concessions based on appeasement of the votebank can bring us on to the brink of disaster, a civil war. To add the the vows of the middle class , they have now decided to pressurise the private players into submitting to quota or face legislation. My only suggestion to the masterminds of this nation is "Grow up!!"
